Welcome to girl knits ocean and thank you for your interest!
Ngaire Kitt was born in New Zealand where she trained as an artist. She has lived and exhibited in California since 1988.
I employ simple knitting techniques as a forum for the amazing textiles available today - from natural fibers; hand dyed linen and recycled silks, to felted nylons, chex multicloths and strands of "eyelash" filament.
Each piece is unique and may contain over a dozen different yarns, ribbons, metals, or threads. You may find items not generally associated with traditional knitting included in your favorite item.
Introducing color and texture spontaneously as I knit, experimentation is central to the process. There is tremendous joy in the contemplation of color, texture and form.
My focus is on individuality, the hand dyed and the carefully recycled: somehow it all knits together.
If you would like an item designed and hand crafted especially for you please send me an email. I will consider all requests.
Please allow a 4 - 6 week lead time. It takes a little while to gather the materials some of which are hand dyed especially for your item.
